Honorable Mention Escape (a feminist’s tale) M. Kathryn Black Inside a house-shaped box, I am a plastic ballerina prone. Something lifts my ceiling up so I might circle before the sky. I yearn to feel the wind lift and tease my netted skirts. Music rises from shrubs and trees as my walls fall back on giant hinges. The spring that holds me melts; I jump scissor-leg over a chair. Hands form in the clouds passing the moon; with a leap, I fly across the yard. My house is rebuilt in the distance, but I dance among the crickets.
